GET TO KNOW: LILLIAN LARK

GET TO KNOW: LILLIAN LARK

I adore this month's featured author, Lillian Lark. Her books are like a warm, fuzzy blanket (but make it monsters and sexy). She's also an unending source of fantastic book recs—make sure you're following her on Tiktok for her video reviews!

Let's get into the interview.

1. Tell us about yourself.

Hi! I’m Lillian Lark. I’m a long-time reader, relatively new author of romance with my most recent works being in the monster romance genre. I’m from the saltiest city in Utah and have three demons who parade around in the disguise of cats but are the best cuddlers when I’m typing away at my desk.

2. How did you get into writing romance? Was it something you always wanted to do?

I have always been a big reader. I’d read everything I could get my hands on. So when my high school boyfriend--now husband--got me a kindle, I dove head first into the world of books on Amazon’s top 100 free list. That’s where romance really dug in its claws and I never looked back.

The journey to writing romance was much more circuitous. I started writing for fun and to battle the burn out of being a return-to-school student studying something that I didn’t have the aptitude for, when I got the amazing opportunity to intern across the country at NASA! Which was a very cool experience, but I was living away from my husband, family, and friends and loneliness was a big factor in actually finishing my first book.

At the end of the internship, I had to come to terms with the fact that no matter that I liked learning about engineering and chemistry, I didn’t like the work as much, but what I loved was writing.

So you see, it was very round-about, but I found my way eventually. ☺

3. What are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on Entranced by the Basilisks, an MMF monster romance set in the same world as Stalked by the Kraken and Deceived by the Gargoyles. And let me just say… I’m so excited for this contentious relationship and all the hurt comfort!

4. There's a lovely cozy quality to your monster romance books, is that something that's important to you?

I never knew how much I love the cozy parts of romance until I read Lola and the Millionaires by Kathryn Moon, and it was like a light bulb went off. I. Love. It.
I can go through all my favorite books and usually there will be some deeply romantic supportive relationship structure in them. With that new knowledge about myself, I turned up the dial on that sensation I was clinging to so that my readers can be enveloped in that same warm hug.

5. What are you reading right now?

I just finished the second book in the Folk series by Lily Mayne, Forgotten Vows, and it was delightful. I’m a diehard fan of Lily’s since reading Soul Eater and had been so scared of the cliffhanger in the Mortal Skin that I waited to read it.

Deceived by the Gargoyles — OUT NOW

(I absolutely loved this book. Make sure you check out the other ones in the series too, including Found by the Lake Monster, a novella set in the same world that was released this month! -Colette)

A curvy librarian looking to start a family, a clan of gargoyles, and the deception that starts it all.

My family has always found me lacking. From the way I dress, how I look, to the type of magic I have. My family name is full of pomp and prestige, and I want nothing to do with it.
I’m a witch that knows how to set a goal and I have one in mind.

I want a real family.

Dating is a travesty. All the suitors I meet are looking for a connection to the family name I left behind. I need help.
Enter the matchmaker. It seems too good to be true that I can give her the list of traits I want in a partner and have my deepest desire answered, but I’m out of options.

Love comes along in the most unexpected ways.

From the very first moment I meet Elliot Bramblewick, I have hope. But he’s tricky.
I’m not expecting him to be hiding two other mates. Mates who are as alarmed and intrigued by my presence as I am by theirs.
He thinks I’m a perfect fit for them, but can I open my heart and discard my list long enough to see if this is the family I’m looking for?

None of my lists and plans prepared me for being courted by three gargoyles.

Deceived by the Gargoyles is a standalone monster romance in the same world as Stalked by the Kraken with multiple love interests who are in relationships with each other. There will be no choosing among the love interests.

Get it here.
