GET TO KNOW: MARIE MISTRY

GET TO KNOW: MARIE MISTRY

I'm fangirling the hell out of this month's featured author! Marie Mistry is such a talent—if you haven't read her latest complete series, The Deadwood, yet then you absolutely need to move it up your TBR. And then jump right into her Daughter of Cain series to cure your book hangover. Or basically anything else Marie has written, she's such a talent.

Let's get into it!

1. Tell us about yourself.

Gahhh that question is evil! Erm, okay. So, I’m an author (obviously!) and I write paranormal and fantasy RH books. I’m also a bit of a hermit, and I’d happily not leave my house if I could get away with it except to go on walks with my doggo. I’m a pretty typical Taurus, who lives for food and sleep, but I also love videogames, crafting/baking and drinking plenty of tea.

2. How did you get into writing romance?

I actually wanted to be an author as a kid (as well as an archaeologist and a pop star). As a teenager I wrote a high fantasy saga that I tried and failed to get traditionally published, then published on Amazon and successfully sold two copies (I’m pretty sure both of those were to my mother). I started reading romance around that time but kept it secret because I didn’t know anyone else who read them, and I didn’t want to get judged for it. At the same time, my teachers told me writing wasn’t going to pay bills, so I was kind of railroaded into taking maths and physics (even though I was awful at them) with the aim of going into engineering. But I rebelled and did a masters in video game design instead! I started publishing my RH novels in my last year of university, and then worked in a grocery store until recently when I was able to go full time.

3. Tell us about Pirate Witch! The world you built is so phenomenal, where did you draw inspiration from? Have you always had an interest in pirates?

Squeee! Thank you! Pirate Witch (and the whole Deadwood series) is the result of a lifelong love for pirates that probably started with Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, which was this animated movie I adored as a kid (there are even a few easter eggs from that movie hidden in the books), then got worse as I developed a crush on Jack Sparrow years later. The whole idea of pirates on a ship just worked so naturally as an RH that I just had to give it a go.

4. What else are you working on in 2022? Will we be seeing more from the Deadwood universe?

Yes definitely! My next release will be Beyond the Faerie Gate, which is set in Kier’s home realm of Faerie. It’s coming out in June and in the new series you’ll get to meet a few characters who have been mentioned in the Deadwood series already, like Kier’s brother Cedwyn. It’s my own take on fae lore with bits and pieces from Celtic, Anglo, Slavic and even Danish myths like redcaps, kelpies and kikimory! The FMC is so sweet and her guys are so protective, I can’t wait! I also have Claimed by Blood the second book in my Underworld-inspired series coming out later in the year, along with a few surprises!

5. What are you reading right now?

I have two books on the go. One is my responsible adult book: ‘Fair Play’ by Eve Rodsky, which I’m reading with my other half. But the one you’re probably most interested in is this spicy little monster book called Luxuria by Colette Rhodes 😉(Author's note: *smug face*)

Pirate Witch — out now!

My name is Nilsa.

I am the last living Shadow.

Mate to six broken immortal pirates.

And now the world knows.

For centuries, the Eagle of Galmere has been butchering the other races to create the Mortal Cure, an elixir that gives her the illusion of immortality. The human queen’s obsession with living forever has crippled empires, maimed countless innocents, and enslaved hundreds more—including my men.

I'm the only one capable of ending her blood soaked reign, but what if the cost is far worse than we'd ever imagined?

This is a medium burn reverse harem novel intended for readers age 18 years and over. Book 3 of 3 in the Deadwood series.
